Information for Graduate Communication Students

Furnished below are links to resources, information, and forms that will help you to navigate your graduate degree program, ranging from policies and procedures, fellowship opportunities, thesis and dissertation assistance, required forms, and general support services.

A number of competitive fellowships are available to graduate students at the College and University levels.

The Graduate School, the Marriott Library, and the Writing Center each offer thesis and dissertation writing support.

M.A. & M.S. Expected Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate a standard of familiarity with the scholarship in three selected competency areas.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to write and speak as a novice scholar in the communication discipline.
  3. Demonstrate reading knowledge of an appropriate foreign language.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to organize and integrate scholarship to produce a substantial scholarly essay, project, or thesis.

M. Phil. Expected Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate intensive knowledge in communication theory, research methods, and two additional competency areas.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to write and speak as a scholar in the communication discipline.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to organize and integrate scholarship in doctoral-level coursework.

Ph.D. Expected Learning Outcomes: 

  1. Demonstrate intensive knowledge in communication theory, research methods, and two additional competency areas.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to integrate the knowledge and research skills assessed through competency examinations to produce an original piece of scholarship in the form of a doctoral dissertation.
  3. Demonstrate competence as a communication educator with a broad-based knowledge of the academic field of communication.
